Fall 2009: MSTD A414/514: Museums and Technology (3 cr.)
Course Description:
This course deals with the ever growing and pervasive role technology plays in the museum field and the museum visitor experience. Students will analyze a variety of museum-focused digital initiatives through case studies, groups discussions, reading and video assignments, assigned projects and one, final new media project proposal.
The majority of student work will focus on the online and physical experience of the museum visitor and how technology can enhance the visitor’s connection to an institution and its collection. Students will work individually, in groups and with outside content experts to formulate new and innovative approaches to interpretive, technological content. As a student, you will require very little technical knowledge to succeed in this class.
By the end of this semester you will…
- Have a firm understanding of emerging technologies in the museum field
- Understand the approaches to developing visitor-focused content
- Know the ins and outs of team-approached museum project implementation
- Create your own content plan for a visitor-focused digital project
- And much more
